reverse-i-search'ing in the Linux shell
When you press ctrl+r
in the shell, you activate a feature called “reverse-i-search.” Reverse-i-search’ing lets you search through your shell history commands, from most recent to oldest.
- To start searching, press
ctrl+r
- Then type the beginning of the command you are looking for
- If the first result isn’t what you want, press
ctrl+r
again to see the next result - When you find the command you want, press
ENTER
to run it
